Jr. Front-End Web Developer
We’re seeking a sorcerer of sorts, so read on if you’re passionate about crafting dreamy, unforgettable web experiences.
Black Magic is currently looking for a Jr. Front-End Web Developer (Contract) to build dazzling, innovative web-based experiences. You’ll be working as part of a team, building wicked new features and maintaining existing ones on several websites. The perfect candidate will have a keen eye for detail and high standards for design, code quality, and efficiency. If you enjoy tackling complex technical challenges, have a passion for delighting customers and are ambitious to push yourself in a team-oriented culture — you will thrive in our environment.
Experience + Magical Talents:
- Expertise in current and new front end web development tools and techniques
- Expertise with JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, and web animation libraries
- Familiarity with PHP, MySQL and Node
- Experience modern front end frameworks, e.g. React, Vue, etc.
- Expertise in Craft CMS, WordPress, and Shopify development
- Experience with Git and issue tracking systems, excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills
- Working knowledge of Sketch, Photoshop, and Illustrator
- Demonstrated a genuine interest and ability to experiment with new technologies
- Excellent Techie BFF-worthy communication skills (team and clients)
- Multitasking wizard — ability to juggle tasks and prioritize
- Strong time management and problem-solving abilities, i.e. where there is a will, there is a way
- Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Respond well to direction and constructive feedback

Digital Designer

Black Magic is currently looking to hire a Digital Designer (Contract). If you live and breathe wicked smart branding and all things web — whether it’s a dazzling new logo or an animated UI graphic — we want to meet you! We’re looking for an energetic person who is passionate about making great work in a fun, collaborative environment. We’re located at The Silos at Sawyer Yards, a collective of 300+ artists of all kinds. Experience + Magical Talents:
- Experience designing dazzling brand systems that extend to the web (homepages, landing pages, emails, digital ads, etc.)
- Highly conceptual thinking in both visual and interaction design, as well as a solid understanding of designing intuitive site functionality, interaction, user interfaces, and navigation
- A design wizard with high level of competency and speed working in Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Sketch
- Ability to collaborate with a diverse (and awesome) team (digital, technology, marketing)
- Prep files for development and work with the leads to ensure a sublime final product
- Strong experience with image compression and optimization techniques
- Ability to interpret and contribute to high-level strategy and apply it to the task at hand
- A multitasking magician — ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously, handle a fast-paced work environment, deadlines, new challenges, and changing priorities
- A plus: illustration and animation chops (we double heart jazzy Instagram animations)
- A plus: Experience working in a design production capacity in a digital agency environment (fast-paced, flexible, adaptable, and some magical madness)
